REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • California Self Insurance Plans Certificate for Administration of Occupational Claims
  • Maintain Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster Continued Education Certification hours as required by the State of California.
  • 8 years or more of experience administering California Workers’ Compensation claims.
  • Confirmed experience and strong understanding of California Labor Code, laws and regulations case resolution and litigation procedures.
  • Work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
  • Confirmed familiarity with automated claims administration systems and ability to work in multiple computer programs.
  • Proficiency within a Windows environment, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong oral/written communication, listening skills and excellent time management skills.
  • Relationship-building, partnering, negotiating and influencing abilities.
  • Validated ability to deliver concise written summaries in memo and presentation format, with appropriate business writing and usage of professional grammar.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of medical and legal terminology and present to various levels of leaders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Business Objects or related reporting software.
  • Bilingual: ability to speak, read and write in Spanish at a fluent level.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, JD, or MBA.
    The hiring range for this position in California is $112,100.00 - $150,200.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offere

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE & TEAM

We protect the magic by preventing and mitigating risk at the Disneyland Resort. The Risk Management Services team is comprised of Guest Claims and Workers’ Compensation and strives to create a world where there are no incidents or claims. As a leader the Workers’ Compensation team, you’ll play a significant role in supporting that work!
The Manager, Workers’ Compensation manages a team of salaried Claims Administrators and hourly Technical Claims Assistants and coordinates all aspects of the administration of claims assigned to their Unit. This is a highly collaborative role that requires outstanding customer service with an understanding of the importance of brand management. Candidates must be willing to have periodic on-call responsibilities, which in some cases will necessitate responding to incidents after hours.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Demonstrate ground-breaking leadership by developing and implementing sound business strategies for optimizing people, processes, systems, and culture, to accelerate business performance and drive engagement.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership skills, taking a concept and working towards implementation. Adapt quickly to change and display flexibility and agility when faced with challenges or ambiguity.
  • Maintain positive relationships with key collaborators, clinicians, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Get results through strategic business planning, implementation, and execution.
  • Lead, support, and coach Workers Compensation Claims Cast Members. Oversight of investigations of occupational injuries and illness, litigation and case resolution and subrogation claims.
  • Review of claim files in accordance with the rules and regulations set by the State of California and department operating guidelines and ensure reserving practices per Self-Insured Plans. Advance incidents with potential excess coverage exposure and help set, implement and achieve department goals and strategies.
  • Review claim files for timeliness, accuracy, and action-planning that will bring files to successful and cost-effective resolution.
  • Assist the Claims Examiner and Hearing Representatives on matters moving through the litigation process. Partner with Vendors and Service Providers acting as liaison and point of contact to ensure service standards are met, improvements and adjustments are timely and relevant.
  • Responsible for the daily administration and production of the Technical Claims Assistants including payments, notices, scanning, etc.
