About the role
As ATB’s next Managing Director, Private Investment Counsel, you will be responsible for all PIC sales operations by quickly and efficiently handling queries, escalations and problem resolution for the advisory teams, internal departments, and any external service partners. The incumbent will also be responsible for identifying priorities and training opportunities for continuous process improvement and project management.
This leader actively leads a team of Private Investment Counselors who manage High Net Worth (HNW) and Institutional clients. The MD, Private Investment Counsel also plays a pivotal role in setting sales strategies and targets for the group.
Furthermore, the MD, Private Investment Counsel actively leads the Investment Committee by offering expert guidance on various topics, including strategic asset allocation recommendations, potential new product offerings, and valuable insights into market and economic trends.

Accountabilities

  • Steers vision, prioritizes efforts, sets goals for PIC team
  • Influences organizational priorities
  • Manages budget and plans for PIC group
  • Models leadership behaviour by example and acts as a mentor for directors
  • Serves as champion to deliver on strategic goals
  • Drives innovation across the organization by leveraging data to reimagine products and experiences
  • Support teams efforts to holistically examines the client’s financial position to extend the firms’ offering beyond security selection by integrating investor objectives and life-goals
  • Leads the strategy to connect clients to internal partners to address planning needs (e.g., estate planning)
  • Define strategy to generate new sales through direct relationships and internal & external referrals
  • Represents the investment counseling business within the community and bolsters the reputation of the firm
  • Provides expertise on key portfolio construction activities (e.g., risk management, strategic asset allocation, sector expertise) while adhering to ATB Investment Management’s investing principles by leading the Investment Committee and disseminating committee outcomes to the PIC team
  • Acts as a thought leader within the PIC group
  • Researches potential products and selects sub-advisors for inclusion in client portfolios in partnership with MD Product & Research
  • Monitors portfolios to ensure they comply with internal risk limits, investment policy statements, and fund guidelines
  • Oversees and directs trading activity related to the rebalancing and optimization of investment portfolios

Skills, experience & requirements

  • University Degree in business, accounting, economics, finance or a related field
  • CFA Charterholder (preferable) or CIM
  • 10 or more years industry experience with 5 or more years experience in leadership roles
  • Ability to manage a high performing sales team
  • Effective communication, and excellent partnership skills
  • Ability to handle a complex issues and a high volume of workload with varied time expectations
  • Strong technical investment knowledge with the ability to lead an Investment Committee
  • Broad knowledge of asset allocation strategies and macro & micro economic conditions that impact the financial markets
  • Strong knowledge of industry regulation, specifically the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC)
