Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Manitoba Land Surveyor. Consideration may be given to graduates from a recognized Civil Technology program and or combination of education and survey field experience at the Surveryor 1 (SV1) classifcation and salary range ($60,125.00 - $78,198.00). If selected, the graduate will be required to achieve Manitoba Land Surveyor status within 36 months of employment.
Within the department, the Construction Support Services branch is one of four branches in the Construction and Maintenance area that provides expert and experienced technical training, consulting, specialized purchasing and evaluation services that ensure consistent quality of fairness in the delivery of highway construction projects.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver’s licence.
  • Must be Licenced as a Manitoba Land Surveyor, or be able to obtain the Manitoba Land Surveyor (MLS) Licence within 8 months (SV3) or 36 months (SV1 underfill).

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Surveying Engineering. Consideration may be given to graduates from a recognized Civil Technology program along with survey field experience. Other suitable combinations of education, experience, and training, supplemented by related experience may also be considered.
  • Experience of field operations with the ability to support legal surveys.
  • Experience performing various human resource activities such as training and development, coaching, labour relations, mentoring, and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of Occupational, Safety, Health & Risk Management policies and procedures.
  • Working experience of GPS legal land survey applications.

Desired:

  • Experience submitting plans for registration in Manitoba’s property rights system.
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, procedures and guidelines.
  • Working experience of AUTOCAD.

Duties:
This position is responsible for the management and operation of a Section for the delivery of the Survey Services Program and Land Survey System Program in the northwest portion of the province.
The Manitoba Land Surveyor is a legislated professional surveyor who provides high-level technical and legal survey expertise within the bylaws of Association of Manitoba Land Surveyors (AMLS) for the province of Manitoba. This position reports to Manager of Survey Services for the organization and direction of long term surveying and mapping projects requiring extensive interaction and co-operation from Crown Lands, Manitoba Hydro, Transportation and Infrastructure, Parks and Protected Spaces, Mining Oil and Gas, Education, First Nations, Natural Resources Canada, and others.
