Location: Southend, (full time on site)
Role Type: 2025 12-month sandwich course placement
JOB SUMMARY:
We have an opportunity for a Manufacturing Engineer Intern to join our Honeywell Building Technologies team in Southend.
Whilst being guided by your mentor, manager and the wider team, this position will see you gaining support, training, and coaching across all teams to implement process improvement, using lean manufacturing tools (Accelerator – Honeywell’s Framework system). You will have the opportunity to coordinate and run site improvement projects then lead and deliver continuous improvement for the manufacturing site.
This role is part of our University Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell.
This internship is set up for 12 months to cover a sandwich placement starting in Summer 2025, with the opportunity for a permanent opportunity once you graduate.
KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Currently studying a sandwich course degree in engineering or manufacturing, graduating in 2026
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing tools and the ability to question and problem solve
- Ability to deliver on complex situations, using data to drive improvement, with the support of a mentor
- Excellent communication skills, to communicate across the business and justify spend
Responsibilities:
As a Manufacturing Engineer Intern, you will work on exciting projects such as driving process improvement. Products include premium 13-amp sockets and switches, which have high volume manufacturing sales, as the number one brand, and are used all across the world in businesses, the leisure industry, education, and healthcare to name but a few.
Areas you will be exposed to include electromechanical assemblies, high volume thermo moulding, and pressed parts, metal stampings, auto, semi auto and manual assembly.
- Once trained, you will facilitate review meetings on your projects
- Site standardisation
- Lead change initiatives as well as Kaizen / lean events
- Project management for site improvement projects
- Provide status reports
