Leidos is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to work for the Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) business unit in Vista, CA. The SES business unit at Leidos designs and manufactures highly complex security equipment for use at border crossings, airports, seaports, and other transportation mechanisms. Our products include radiation detectors and spectrometers, X-ray and gamma ray scanners for cars, trucks and trains, and CT explosives detection equipment for airline passenger baggage.
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing of a variety of products (Exploranium Radiation Portal Monitoring Equipment & VACIS Non-Intrusive Inspection Systems) and develop processes that ensure a consistent and quality focused approach to product manufacturing. This position requires a comfort level working on the shop floor, side by side with our manufacturing and service teams. This role will solve daily production challenges, support the production schedule, and drive ongoing production improvements. The roles and responsibilities may change from time to time without notice and include but are not limited to the roles described below.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a BS and 4+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters Degree with 2+ years. May consider additional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US citizenship required).
  • Experience in Systems Engineering processes and procedures
  • Experience/domain knowledge of requirements, verification, and validation is preferred
  • Experience with complex systems development and integration preferred
  • Experience with implementation and maintenance of systems engineering tools, schedules and metrics

Responsibilities:

  • Documentation Development release through document control
  • Manufacturing Bill of Materials development and ongoing administration and updates from product improvements or obsolescence.
  • Creation and Maintenance of Manufacturing Routings and Work Instructions for New Product Introductions, Sustaining Production and Service Support.
  • Analysis of technical parameters for obsolete parts and identification of sources for direct replacement parts that meet form, fit and function requirements.
  • Routine review and action of parts obsolescence backlog as supply chain signals are provided for obsolete components or parts.
  • Supporting assessment and collaborative resolution of complex cross-functional technical issues amongst multiple diverse stakeholders.
  • Driving results through the development, implementation and maintenance of rigorous processes, tools, schedules and metrics
  • Maintaining current data and providing status on technical and schedule performance issues.
  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements.
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
  • Create processes and procedures to help assembly technicians create workflow efficiencies to enhance quality and streamline production.
  • Establish an effective and efficient work sequence
  • Devise new solutions to existing manufacturing problems
  • Develop standardized design criteria across product lines where possible.
  • Support New Product Introductions as new products are migrated into the Vista Manufacturing facility.
  • Technical oversight of Functional Configuration Audit planning and execution as new products are migrated.
