QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering roles, with a strong focus on high-volume production environments.
- Proven experience in the industrialisation of new products, including process development, equipment selection, and line launch.
- Deep understanding of manufacturing principles, including lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality control methodologies.
- Experience with developing and managing Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyse data and identify root causes of issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. 1
- Experience in the battery industry is highly preferred.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
Here at Vertical Aerospace, we are on a journey to deliver our 1st aircraft into service by 2028, this requires us to develop our battery to be produced in-house. To achieve this, we need to develop our existing team and add to the skill set we have.
We are looking for a talented Senior Industrialisation Manufacturing Engineer to play a crucial role in the successful transition of our innovative battery technology from concept to high-volume production. This role will be instrumental in defining and implementing the manufacturing processes and systems required to achieve efficient and scalable production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the industrialisation process of our battery, driving the transition of battery technology from R&D to high-volume manufacturing, and ensuring a smooth and timely transfer of knowledge and technology. You will be responsible for -
- Own and manage the manufacturing engineering deliverables for milestones, create and work to a plan, and hold the other teams and cross teams accountable to deliver.
- Capture and manage manufacturing risks, working to reduce or manage the risks through PFMEA, DFA/M, and reporting out status.
- Develop Manufacturing Processes, define and document detailed manufacturing processes, including process flow diagrams / Bill of Sequence (BOS), work instructions, and quality control plans.
- Design the Equipment & Line Layout, working closely with the equipment suppliers to select and integrate appropriate manufacturing equipment. Design and optimise production line layouts for maximum efficiency and ergonomics.
- Lead the delivery of equipment to the production facility, overseeing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), as well as installation, commissioning, and qualification. Hold cross-functional teams accountable for delivering on technology development, design, and other critical milestones.
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all battery components, including both Bill of System (BOS) and Bill of Process (BOP). Collaborate with procurement to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and components.
- Point of contact of development builds to test and refine manufacturing processes, identify and resolve potential issues, and gather data for process optimisation, working with manufacturing.
