Powertech is at the forefront of the hydrogen vehicle industry and has an exciting opportunity to lead a team focused on the manufacture of industry-leading hydrogen vehicle refueling stations. We are a leader in the technical design, construction, and operation of compressed hydrogen fueling infrastructure. We have the market’s first end-to-end hydrogen transportation and fueling solution - streamlining the movement of hydrogen from production outlet to vehicle inlet. Powertech has already helped put fuel cell vehicles on the road – we need your help to us put the refueling infrastructure in place.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering recognized by universities in Canada.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or eligible for immediate registration.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment
  • Hands-on experience working in a manufacturing / shop environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing shop personnel, technicians, and junior engineers
  • Experience working in a union environment is an asset.
  • Experience with Solidworks software or equivalent to produce drawings to ASME standards is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians in the execution of several projects of varying complexities.
  • Ensure that qualified internal and external resources are available and possess the required expertise as well as tools to meet project requirements.
  • Develop/optimize the workflow, communication, quality, and efficiencies.
  • Provide technical guidance in hydrogen stations engineering relating to mechanical design, code compliance and quality control.
  • Investigate challenges relating to fabrication or engineering to assess risks and develop innovative solutions.
  • Provide work prioritization and resource allocation to meet project needs; review work in progress and assess completed work for accuracy, required results and compliance with quality assurance and engineering standards.
  • Communicate with Project Engineers to ensure that fabrication work is prioritized appropriately while providing regular status updates to leadership team on shop progress.
  • Work with suppliers and contract manufacturers to ensure that equipment is built to required specifications.
  • Manage external contractors, including electricians, refrigeration technicians and other trades to ensure that work is completed on time and in a safe and efficient manner
  • Lead the development of shop fabrication drawings, as-built drawings, and documentation. Guide the technical and operational performance of the team to meet customers’ needs.
  • Set annual staff objectives, conduct mid-year and year-end performance assessment, address personnel performance issues through performance management practices, support staff career progression by establishing personal development plans.
  • Establish and maintain departmental procedures of technical, quality, safety, and environmental nature, participate in regular auditing of processes and documentation, and engage with support teams on addressing corrective actions in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with other teams across Powertech, and seek opportunities for cross discipline projects
