Description:
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide operational and maintenance services to Norfolk County Port Dover Harbour Marina facilities including repairs to buildings, equipment, docks, ramps, gas dock, gazebo’s, pavilion or recommending the use of appropriate trades people. Maintain buildings and associated equipment in good repair and in attractive clean condition for public service.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
- To provide operational and maintenance services to Norfolk County Port Dover Harbour Marina facilities to ensure that the docks, buildings, ramps, gas dock, gazebo’s, pavilion and equipment are kept in a safe and attractive condition. Duties change seasonally.
- Also responsible for providing functional directional/guidance to Marina Attendants.
- Review assignments and schedules for maintenance and use of facilities and equipment at the start of each shift. Ensure that facilities are ready for use.
- Follow generally accepted maintenance and repair standards, administrative policy and practice and program of preventative maintenance.
- Implement safety procedures to ensure public safety at Port Dover Harbour Marina facility and eliminate any suspected safety hazards.
- Make daily and regular checks of equipment and record findings in logbooks.
- Work to achieve good relations with users and the public to encourage proper care of the County facility.
- Ensure awareness of all Health and Safety issues.
- Performs a variety of preventative maintenance task and repairs in facility including equipment, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and scheduled cleaning of equipment.
- Report to Marina Manager any problems and make any recommendations, which may increase level of service or minimize cost of operations.
- Provide direction/guidance to part-time staff on a regular basis, making sure facility is maintained in a safe and orderly conduct.
- Ensure tools and equipment are operated in a safe manner at all times.
- Coordinate, assist and oversee the work performed by others, i.e. plumbing, electrical (contractors).
- Recommend the purchase of appropriate material or supplies necessary to complete repairs/maintenance.
- Respond to immediate/urgent requests for service, i.e. broken plumbing fixtures, hydro failures, etc.
- Assume additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Marina Manager.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be knowledgeable and trained in modern building maintenance techniques, including the ability to perform minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs to Marina buildings, docks and equipment.
- Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience minimum three years.
- First Aid and CPR C certification
- Previous experience providing guidance/direction to staff, an asset.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience operating equipment, trucks, tractors with attachments, weed harvester and fork lift.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships and to deal politely with the public.
- Proficiency in the use of equipment and tools.
- Experience operating power tools and hand tools.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proven ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
- A valid fork lift operating license
- A valid Ontario driver’s license.
- Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
