Description:

About the Role
Are you looking to kick start your career and gain real-world experience in the payments industry?
We’re the world’s leading provider of secure financial messaging services. We are the way the world moves value – across borders, through cities and overseas. No other organisation can address the scale, precision, pace and trust that this demands, and we’re proud to support the global economy.
As part of Swift’s Product Group, you will join the Market Infrastructure (MI) team that shapes and promotes Swift’s solution portfolio for MIs and Central Banks. MIs play a critical role in achieving Swift’s objectives – delivering scale, reach and an important product portfolio. The MI team is responsible for delivering secure, reliable and efficient solutions for MIs, payment systems and their communities.
We are looking for an ambitious team player who is serious about gaining real-world experience in the payments industry. The successful candidate will be inquisitive and curious to learn about real world challenges and opportunities for central banks and MIs. We expect them to hold great analytical skills, as well as be an enthusiastic self-starter keen to contribute to all aspects of the team’s functions.
You will gain a solid understanding of the critical role Swift plays in financial services and will have the opportunity to dive into fast-moving and relevant developments facing our financial community. This will allow you to develop both soft and hard skills, with opportunities to undertake analysis on unique perspectives and present findings to industry experts.
You will not work alone. You will be part of the global MI business team that is at the forefront of MI developments for Swift. We are an inclusive and friendly team that deliver within an environment that fosters curiosity and development.
We intend to the role to run from ~September 2024 for 6 months, with a potential to extend for up to 12 months.
Key responsibilities
The internship will provide opportunities to get involved in a variety of tasks relating to the MI business squad’s deliveries. This will include tasks to support the team, as well as tasks you will own.

Some of these tasks may include responsibility for:

  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis – including tracking metrics for traffic across Swift services and deep dives into emerging trends and developments.
  • Management of key documentation – such as maintaining our means for reporting statuses to senior management.
  • Proactive support to the broader team: delivering key components of the Squad’s objectives such as running weekly status meetings and owning documentation that will develop your Jira and Confluence skills.
  • Proactive engagement in Squad and Tribe: to work closely across the Squad and Tribe to create better outcomes for customers and the MI community.
  • Using Swift’s learning tools to further your awareness of Swift and the payments industry, as well as gathering the relevant professional training throughout your time with us.

You will also have the opportunity to carry out your own research working with industry experts across the company to collect and analyse Swift data.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Education: We expect that you will have (or are expecting) a 2:1 Higher Education degree. However, we will consider candidates that can illustrate relevant skills, enthusiasm and experience without a degree.
  • Work experience: As an internship, the role is typically aimed at those with fewer than 1-3 years experience in relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrable experience / understanding of:
  • Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent English – written, spoken and reading.
  • Awareness of what Swift does and our mission.
  • Soft skills:
  • Team player, with enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • Creative, inquisitive and curious about real world financial services / payments issues
