HE ANGITŪTANGA: THE OPPORTUNITY
Auckland Council’s Communications and Marketing department has an exciting opportunity for a Market Research Analyst to join our team in our central Auckland office. Reporting to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer, you’ll play a crucial role in developing and measuring our marketing efforts. Your insights will directly inform and influence our campaigns, ensuring they resonate with our Auckland communities.
In this role, you will be the go to expert for audience insights, market benchmarking, and campaign measurement, turning data into actionable strategies that drive our communications goals. Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Converting briefs into effective market research projects and defining key metrics
- Designing and implementing research approaches, including questionnaire design
- Delivering clear, actionable insights and presentations to inform strategic decisions
- Collaborating with the Marketing, Publicity, and Channel teams to maximise campaign effectiveness

We are seeking a highly experienced professional with a solid background in research-focused roles and a deep understanding of market research methodologies and insights analysis. As a motivated and goal-driven individual, you excel at managing projects from start to finish, including designing questionnaires and analysing complex data sets. Your passion for transforming data into strategic recommendations and your knack for clear and confident communication will be crucial to your success.
In this role, you will be pivotal in developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. Your collaborative nature and clear, effective communication style will help you build these connections and drive successful outcomes. Your pragmatic problem solving skills and exceptional eye for detail will be essential as you navigate challenges and deliver insights that drive strategic decisions.
The ideal candidate should have a customer and consumer focused mindset, with the ability to handle specialist-level stakeholder discussions. Your experience in managing high-level conversations with senior stakeholders, coupled with your mature, calm demeanour, will enable you to influence and communicate effectively.
We will be looking for specific background and experience, including:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field.
- Proven ability to design, manage, and summarise market research projects, including questionnaire design
- Strong data analysis skills, with proficiency in Excel and other analytics tools
- At least 5 years of experience in a quantitative research role within a New Zealand research agency will be highly advantageous
- Previous experience in a local government context is preferred but not essential.
