The goal of Marketing and Communications is to reach our defined audience to influence their behaviours by informing, persuading and reminding. We build brand awareness, encourage ‘trial’ and engagement, and maintain customer satisfaction by reinforcing brand benefits, communicating new service/products, and listening to their feedback. We build and reinforce relationships with current and future students, their families, staff, faculty, alumni, as well as other stakeholders. Some key elements of Marketing and Communications initiatives include but not limit to print and digital advertising, media relations, event marketing, direct marketing (mass email), promotion and sponsorship, etc.

EDUCATION:

  • Currently enrolled at Western University and planning to return for full-time studies in the 2025-26 academic year
  • Preferred students enrolled in the program of Visual Arts, or Media and Information Technology (MIT)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous work experience in an administrative environment
  • If available, please submit a photography portfolio in your application. An Instagram account or google drive works fine

SKILLS, ABILITIES & EXPERTISE:

  • Advanced skills in operating DSLR/mirrorless cameras, demonstrating mastery in adjusting settings such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO to achieve optimal image quality and desired visual effects
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write in both marketing and journalistic style
  • Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently work assigned schedule
  • Ability to follow processes and practices with high attention to detail
  • Demonstrates integrity and works in accordance with Western’s policies and procedures
  • Ability to multi-task, to prioritize and maintain an organized work environment,
  • Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
  • Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements as applicable
    Hours: 35 hours per week from May to Aug and 10-15 hours per week from Sept to Apr

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will play a key role in photography initiatives for the Division of Housing and Ancillary Services:

  • Attend events to capture photos and video footage
  • Edit photos to suit various marketing requirements, including website, social, print design, etc.
  • Create engaging content on social media including posts, stories and reels
  • Assist in planning and creating storyboard, shooting, editing and producing videos, reels and other multimedia content
  • Conduct market research regarding other schools’ marketing initiatives, visual presentation
  • Review existing marketing initiatives, organize focus group discussion, collect feedback
  • Assist in special projects in marketing and communications as required
  • The incumbent will take guidance from the Digital Content Coordinator and work productively and courteously with other members within the Division
