POSITION: MARKETING COORDINATOR OF DEVELOPMENT

Reports To: Director of Development and Communications
Date Reviewed: January 2025
Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Development and Communications, the Marketing Coordinator of Development will lead marketing and communication initiatives to support the GTHS fundraising and development team in achieving annual giving targets that make a lasting impact on the well-being of pets and people. This includes promoting key fundraising programs such as the PAW Monthly Donor Program, all signature and third-party events, annual campaigns (including holiday, 50/50 lottery, planned giving, and calendar contest), and fundraising appeals. The Marketing Coordinator will also be responsible for coordinating donor-specific e-newsletters, stewardship communications, and fundraising-related social media content, as well as providing events coordination support.
Position Schedule: 40 hrs per week, occasional weekend and after-hours shifts will be required. Hybrid work combined with regular on-site requirements at our work locations and in-community (3-4 days/week).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education or Experience/Designation:

  • Education in fundraising, marketing, communications, graphic design, non-profit management, or related field with a minimum of two (2) years of direct communications or marketing or fundraising experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Marketing & Communications Experience:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to tell compelling and heartfelt stories and focus on exceptional customer service.
  • Strong background in writing, editing and elements of design; developing marketing materials.
  • Experience with social media tools including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Experience in graphic design, video editing, and/or photography (especially animals) an asset.

Fundraising/Development Experience:

  • Knowledge of the principles of effective donor cultivation, with proven ability to craft compelling fundraising appeals, donor impact reports, and stewardship materials tailored to diverse audiences.
  • Experience creating messaging that aligns with organizational goals while inspiring donor engagement and action.
  • Strong understanding of donor segmentation, storytelling, and using data to personalize and enhance communications.
  • Familiarity with best practices for multi-channel fundraising/development for annual giving, including direct mail, email campaigns, and social media.

Technology Qualifications

  • Excellent computer skills. Familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MailChimp, Canva, WordPress, SEO and website content and flow.
  • Experience using Sumac, Raiser’s Edge or other donor software is an asset.
  • Experience using Sumac, TipTap and/or Canada Helps an asset.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Development and Communications and Annual Development Manager to develop, maintain, and execute Annual Communications and Marketing Plans focused on fundraising and development activities, which include the PAW Monthly Donor Program, all signature and third-Party events, annual campaigns (including holiday, 50/50 lottery, planned giving and calendar contest), and fundraising appeals. They are also responsible for coordinating donor-specific e-newsletters, stewardship pieces and fundraising-related social media communications.
  • Lead designer for all external communications related to annual fundraising/development activities noted above, including but not limited to print media, e-newsletters and e-blasts, graphics, logo, photos, social media, videos, and website.
  • Share authentic GTHS animal stories through written, visual and video content to motivate and inspire annual giving via e-appeals, direct mail, and digital/social media campaigns, occasionally producing ad hoc campaigns for urgent needs. Gather content onsite to create engaging material for social media platforms, YouTube, and the GTHS website/blog.
  • Publish Stewardship Newsletters using Mailchimp; maintain lists and audiences in accordance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Maintain the annual Communications Calendar for annual fundraising/development initiatives to ensure timely completion of tactics for ongoing projects, including social media posts, blog updates, e-blasts, press releases, and internal communications.
  • Regularly update the GTHS website to reflect current annual fundraising/development initiatives and information.
  • Work closely with the development team to meet deliverables for sponsors, donors and community partners; lead on design and development of all event Fulfillment Reports, to finalize per sponsor need.
  • Support the improvement of donor retention by collecting stories, measuring impact, developing strategic communications plans and ensuring all gifts receive appropriate recognition.
  • Help to maintain strong donor relations by supporting donor stewardship, special events, communications plans and other duties as assigned.
  • Provide event coordination support to the development team including day of event.
  • Operate proactively, working to ensure that all GTHS events and campaigns are successful and that all timelines and sponsor deliverables are met. Troubleshoot well in advance of events and deadlines to ensure that unique and novel communication methods are initiated when necessary.
