Description:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum five years’ experience in a marketing role in a professional work environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proven experience developing creative advertising campaigns
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills across a variety of platforms
  • Ability to create and maintain organized work systems
  • High attention to detail
  • Experience with a variety of digital marketing tools (Mailchimp, Moz, Adwords, Google Analytics, Facebook Business Manager)
  • Experience in SEO and SEM
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
  • Experienced with professional, optimized content writing for SEM, social media, content marketing
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Adaptable and flexible in a changing market and work environment
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
  • Able to develop effective working relationships with multiple cross-functional teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Google Adwords and Google Analytics certified
  • Basic HTML and CMS knowledge
  • Experience with statistics for data analysis
  • Experience with website content creation in a professional or business environment

Responsibilities:

DUTIES:

The Marketing Strategist supports our mission of building awareness of the VIU brand and to attract prospective students to consider VIU as their top choice for post-secondary studies. Working on the Nanaimo campus within the Brand and Marketing department, the successful candidate will build and execute marketing programs in support of VIU’s strategic goals.

Campaign Development

  • Work with the Director, Brand and Marketing to develop annual strategic marketing plan to enhance the VIU brand and support institutional priorities, identifying target audiences and key messages.
  • Work with members of the brand and marketing, web development and communication teams to develop all required creative assets.
  • Deliver all elements of the annual marketing plan within budget, which may include:

Email Marketing

  • Support the creation of an email marketing strategy
  • Create, edit, A/B test, schedule, analyze and optimize emails and email marketing campaignsManage lead and email database

    • define and create lists to target different customer/lead segments and personas

    • Ensure emails are in full compliance of CASL, CAN-SPAM and other email regulations

    Paid Advertising

    • Implement marketing ad spend strategies to meet the institution’s recruitment, brand, and project or initiative objectives
    • Manage and monitor marketing ad spend and budgets across all campaigns
    • Provide expertise, guidance and support to faculties, departments and programs in the development and execution of marketing campaigns, leveraging creative problem-solving skills, market research and in-depth knowledge of marketing channels and best practices
    • Create and maintain marketing campaign reports, sharing results along with analysis and recommendations for improvement against stated KPIs

    Analytics

    • Monitor and aggregate campaign results and optimize on an ongoing basis
    • Create presentations reflecting the status of marketing activities at the institution

    General

    • Participate in evaluating and upholding brand guidelines at all touchpoints, including web properties, digital assets and internal and external digital campaigns
    • Performs detailed website curation, including writing, updating, and maintaining content, in consultation with management/leadership.
    • Makes recommendations for website optimization related to user experience (UX) and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
