ABOUT YOU

• No experience is required in Stone Masonry / Production / Labouring as full training provided.
• You may have transferable skills if you have worked in a manual / trade related industry e.g. as a Labourer / groundsperson or in a factory / construction / warehouse / retail / funeral role.
• If you are looking for a change of direction and have the desire to learn we can train you in everything you need to know.
• An interest in a career in stone masonry would be beneficial.
• Able bodied as there will be manual handling and heavy lifting involved in this line of work. PPE will be provided for your safety.
• Excellent attention to detail and understands the need for quality work.
• A team player who enjoys keeping busy and helping others to get the job done.
• Respectful of machinery and working in a way that ensures the health and safety of you and your colleagues.
• Flexible approach to working hours- including evenings and/or weekends if required (occasional overtime may be available).
• A clean driving licence would be useful if involved in any deliveries.

We have a vacancy for a Masonry Factory Operative to join our friendly team based at our Head Office workshop in Basildon, Essex.
AK Lander has been in the memorial and masonry industry for over 150 years, and with a team of over 20 staff we have an excellent reputation in our field of expertise.
Like many of our employees, you might not have considered this industry before, however with industry training provided and on-going career development, there are opportunities for you to learn and grow.

THE ROLE

• Locating and setting up memorials for daily fixing lists and pallet deliveries, ensuring all components are correct and without defect.
• Working with different types of stone and masonry which can be very heavy to lift and maneuver.
• You will need to be able bodied and comfortable with heavy lifting.
• Polishing granite and different stone surfaces - learning specialist techniques to create a high standard memorial product.
• Lettering memorials.
• Supporting the memorials for fixing.
• Ensuring supplier deliveries are put away correctly and checked against the delivery notes
• Using all equipment in a safe manner and adhering to general and site-specific Health and Safety guidelines.
• Always keeping the yard and factory tidy, including litter picking.
• Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and colleagues across the group.
• Contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice.
• Ensuring that you always use all relevant PPE while working.
