The Metabolomics Platform is looking for an engaged and experienced Staff Scientist with extensive experience in mass spectrometry analysis. The position is a full-time position for 5 years with a start date of October 1, 2024, or after agreement.
ABOUT US
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) is an academic research Center that pioneers groundbreaking research towards better cardiometabolic health. Through collaborative interdisciplinary research from single-cell genomics to whole-body systems, CBMR aims to transform the basic understanding of cardiometabolic health and accelerate its translation into prevention and treatment strategies. The Center’s uniquely multi- and interdisciplinary approach combines research in genetics, physiology and pharmacology, to better understand the complex interplay of the many factors that drive cardiometabolic disease. CBMR was established in 2010 at the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences and has been located in the Maersk Tower at PANUM since 2017. The around 260 employees create an international, highly collaborative research environment across disciplines.
PROFILE
Essential experience and skills:
We are looking for a staff scientist with the following qualifications:
- Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or a related field
- Extensive practical experience with mass spectrometry-based analyses
- Knowledge in quality assessment and validation of methods
- Flexible and able to organize your own time efficiently
- Good at working independently and self-motivated
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, especially in English; spoken as well as written.
Desirable experience and skills:
- Experience with, and skills in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics analysis including:
- Develop and apply GC-MS and LC-MS methods.
- Data preprocessing of MS-based metabolomics analysis using e.g. MZmine, XCMS or MS-dial.
- Knowledge in univariate and multivariate statistics
Responsibilities:
Your tasks will include carrying out global analyses of metabolites and lipids in various biological sample matrices, so-called metabolomics and lipidomics, as well as developing strategies and methods for quantitative and qualitative analysis of specific metabolites in biological tissues and fluids. The work will include sample preparation, mass spectrometry (MS) and processing of MS-data, as well as performing basic statistical data evaluation of metabolomics data and producing project reports. You will also be involved in the development and optimization of new LC and GC MS methods to grow our portfolio of services.
You will be expected to contribute to writing and updating standard operating procedures and protocols. You will work in close collaboration with the platform’s staff and other research groups at CBMR and will participate in various research projects that involve chemical analyses. You will be expected to work with a high degree of precision, deliver quality results, maintain detailed records and be willing to take initiative.
