Masterarbeit Realisierung einer präzisen Antennensteuerung für eine 4,5m 100kg schwere S-Ban (m/f/d)
Master Thesis Realization of precise antenna pointing rotor for a 4,5m 100kg S-Band mesh antenna (m/f/d) Antennas are at the heart of satellite communication. They enable the transmission of data between the satellites in space and the users on the ground. A precisely aligned and antenna with accurate tracking ensures stable and reliable communication links. Without them, numerous applications such as weather observation, earth observation, navigation and global communication would not be possible. The master thesis on the implementation of an antenna control offers the opportunity to develop and optimize such an antenna assembly for OHB’s own 4.5m S-band mesh antenna. The master thesis is carried out within the OHB Digital Connect BEACON project, on which a team of experienced OHB employees and students is working.
Your Tasks
Within this masters thesis you will
- Assembele a custom designed antenna rotor
- Develop precise and smooth pointing algorithms to control the azimuth and elevation of the antenna
- Once the rotor is preassembled, help install the rotor on the 4,5m antenna, replacing the current solution
- Translate satellite flight information into a movement plan for the antenna
- Implement a control algorithm for tracking satellites with minimal vibrations on the dish
- Test, measure and optimize your solution on real satellite operations
- Document your results and present your findings in regular meetings to the team
- Before the start of the thesis, we will together with you and your university formulate a proper working statement.
Your Qualifications
- You are studying computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics or a comparable course of study
- You have initial programming knowledge, ideally Python
- You like solving tough problems and you’re excited about all things space
- You like working in a team
- You have first experiences with linear motors or motor control in general
