DBT’s Materials Directorate works to ensure the UK has internationally competitive industrial sectors and resilient supply chains for strategically important materials and products – such as critical minerals, chemicals, glass, ceramics, steel and aluminium. We are responsible for ensuring that these industries create jobs, decarbonise, build skills and continue to invest and grow economic wealth.
We are looking to recruit three Grade 6s into exciting, varied and high-profile roles across the Directorate which will involve leadership, strategy and policy development across a broad portfolio. All of the roles will involve significant engagement with Ministers, senior officials across Whitehall and senior stakeholders from businesses.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
We are looking for three engaging leaders with a track record of successfully leading multiple work strands within fast paced conditions. You will need to have:
- A track record of strong and effective leadership, with experience of building high-performing and engaged teams.
- Excellent drafting skills and significant experience of leading the policy development process, including managing input from various experts to present policy recommendations.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills with evidence of building close, trusting relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- The ability to build close, trusting relationships with a variety of stakeholders across Whitehall, with stakeholders external to Government and with Ministers and Senior Officials.
