Description:
Are you detail-oriented, organized, and eager to contribute to a cutting-edge laboratory environment? We’re looking for a motivated individual to take on the vital role of Materials Management Assistant! We now have a permanent, full time vacancy for an enthusiastic Materials Management Assistant to work in the Blood Sciences department in Sutton. The department processes approximately 350 000 samples per year. Applications are invited for a Materials Management Assistant on our Sutton site. As a member of the departmental team, you will be involved in receiving laboratory supplies and entering details into the Laboratory stock management system. The role also involves transporting samples and stock items which supports the analysis of samples throughout the Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories. You will be expected to be involved in streamlining and modernising processes within the department.
The laboratories are open for routine work between the hours of 08:00 and 20:00, 7 days per week. The role will be expected to cover hours between Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm as required.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate excellent team working and communication skills. The department carries full ISO15189 Accreditation.
The post-holder will be responsible for monitoring stock and logging deliveries of reagents into our state-of-the-art WASP stock management system, labelling them appropriately and ensuring appropriate storage conditions in accordance with Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs). You will be expected to play a key role in our logistics by managing timely dispatch and receipt of items between sites and help with general portering and administrative tasks within the labs and all the different sections.
The Materials Management Assistant (MMA) will interact with several teams within Blood Sciences such as medical Laboratory Assistants in Pathology Reception, Biomedical Scientist (BMS) in Biochemistry and Haematology as well as other staff within the Trust.

Receiving and Inspecting Deliveries: Be the first to receive and inspect critical laboratory supplies, ensuring everything is in perfect condition and logged accurately using the WASP handheld stock control system.
Verification and Documentation: Check items against delivery notes, ensuring quantities and lot numbers are correct. Participate in lot mortgage reservations with the Biochemistry Lead and Lab Manager. Checking orders and delivery dates noting backorders and responding to them.
Batch Segregation: Separate deliveries into batches according to the date of receipt to assist Biomedical Scientists (BMS) in verifying Internal Quality Controls (IQC) and reagent conditions.
Labelling and Storage: Attach “Not Tested” and colour labels as appropriate and ensure all items are stored in their designated locations.
Inter-Site Logistics: Manage the timely dispatch and receipt of items between sites, particularly ensuring that items for the Chelsea site are dispatched promptly and that deliveries from Chelsea are distributed appropriately. Ensuring the correct lot numbers are sent to avoid laboratory downtimes
