  • Bachelor’s degree in materials management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field, required
  • Experience of Kanban process, preferably ownership of inventory management utilizing this system
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Material Manager role
  • 5+ years of management experience leading a tea

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reporting to the Plant Manager in Gardena, CA, the Materials Manager role is instrumental in ensuring that the most effective supply chain processes are in place to support the Solvent Cement business strategies and objectives for optimizing the manufacturing environment. This role operates in accord with Supply Chain and Sourcing team. As a hands-on leader, it is the responsibility of the Materials Manager to ensure that the Solvent Cement integrated supply chains are positioned to achieve customer On Time Performance expectations with optimized cost, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness. This role will assess and manage supply chain risk and lead continuous improvements in Gardena Manufacturing Operations through enhancements in planning, standardized processes, tools, metrics, analytics, and deep-dive problem solving.
The Materials Manager is also responsible for inventory demand, planning, and accuracy, in addition to production scheduling, warehouse and logistics. As part of the on-going optimization strategy, the Materials Manager will prioritize demand changes in our planning system to ensure high accuracy of forecast needs and inventory records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Measure weekly, quarterly and annual materials goals that support the business unit objectives.
  • Maintain and develop a material cost savings funnel in line with the BU objectives. Responsible for driving identified and approved projects to completion
  • Conduct market analysis, internal demand analysis, supplier selection, and negotiation of price, terms and conditions to maximize contribution to operating profit and business objectives
  • Manage sourcing projects and assume responsibility for Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
  • Develop and maintain supplier relationships and drive supplier performance and effectiveness. Complete supplier analysis to select the best suppliers and guarantee an optimal supply chain, conduct annual supplier evaluation, and execute formal supplier development plans when applicable
  • Utilize value stream mapping and other ABS (lean) tools to streamline processes and minimize inventory.
  • Promote continuous improvement efforts for designated business unit(s) for the materials function.
  • Participate in the SIOP process.
  • Responsible for material and logistics planning, inventory planning, production and demand planning management, on-hand inventory accuracy, forecasting and replenishment, freight optimization.
  • Direct analysis on all orders, reschedules, or cancellations of raw materials from suppliers based on material requirements in E1 using Material Requirement Planning (MRP). Further directs the monitoring of available capacities based on sales demands. Directs the efforts to work with internal teams to resolve capacity shortfalls.
  • Ensure manufacturing operations has an adequate supply of materials to keep all production areas working, to meet spare parts requirements, and keeps obsolete and excess material inventory levels at a minimum.
  • Maintain at least 2 weeks of production plan
  • Budget and manage all commercial issues related to sorting, rework and charge back of both purchased and in house produced parts.
  • Identify current and potential product shortages, develop and execute recovery plan.
  • Coordinate material movement between warehouses, bin locations and production floor.
  • Ensure inventory levels satisfy demand and meet financial objectives associated with fulfillment, turnover, and profitability.
  • Utilize MRP to ensure the data is accurate and up to date.
  • Monitor inventory levels at the category, product, and SKU levels to maximize inventory turnover, and optimize cash flow, while meeting customer demand.
  • Maintain system data integrity to assure best data is available for critical decision-making.
  • Maintain and update master files (items, vendors, etc.) including new item set up.
  • Set up and monitor the integrity if Bill of Materials (BOM) and manage their accuracy.
  • Complete cycle counts; investigate inventory gains and losses; maintain accurate product records; monitor rotation and transfer of inventory items.
  • Review and reconcile variances, analyzing data to determine discrepancy root cause in a timely matter.
  • Coordinate and manage annual physical inventories of So. Cal facilities (Gardena, Carson, Compton).
  • Lead continuous improvement plans as it relates to materials planning, production planning, warehouse and freight management, space optimization and timely customer order fulfillment.
  • Develop analytical tools and daily best practices as it relates to inventory optimization and risk mitigation
  • Manage warehouse operations, including logistics, scheduling systems, delivery, and transportation, loading dock activity, safety & security, emergency action plans, and standard operating procedures.
  • Cultivate a high performance, result-oriented culture by maintaining positive working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish and track performance objectives and development plans for team members while providing coaching and mentoring when needed.
  • Must adhere to all standard and specialized PPE requirements and ensure that team members are adhering to all safe work practices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
