Who will you be working with?
As a member of the Field Services Americas team, you will be responsible for helping our customer (CPKC) maintain their fleet of GE/Wabtec locomotives by providing exceptional materials management and logistics support. You will be part of a team made up of Wabtec materials experts, all working to ensure our customer’s fleet is running at optimal levels.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Wabtec Field Service Team (CPKC), you will be responsible for all areas of Material management, handling and support for our end customer.
This position works onsite at our customer’s facility where you’ll play a critical function in ensuring maintenance materials are always available for locomotive repairs and maintenance. Our Material Managers are trained subject matter experts in our parts and logistics processes. They receive world-class training and become certified in materials management for state-of-the-art locomotive engines.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University (or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum 4 years of experience in a materials management or operations position)
  • Can demonstrate working execution of master scheduling, inventory management and ability to lead workforce in support of initiatives.
  • Ability and willingness to lift approximately 35 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a fluid 24/7 shop environment, including any shift and all-weather conditions
  • Must possess sufficient skills to perform basic mathematical calculations
  • Must have knowledge of traffic codes and regulations
  • Must have the ability to work in warehouse/heavy shop environment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • High understanding of Safety awareness and a strong safety culture
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to work across functional boundaries and all levels of management
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively communicate with production, engineering, customer service, sales, and external customers
  • Experience in the Railroad Industry
  • Understanding of DOT/TDG Shipping Course Certification
  • Strong team leadership, team building, interpersonal skills, and customer service skills
  • Previous experience safely operating forklifts and other shop equipment
  • The ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is a must
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time

Don’t have experience with locomotives? That’s ok! We provide in-depth technical training to give our materials specialist the knowledge and expertise needed to be successful.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Support all aspects of warehousing and material management including fulfillment, transactional quality, inventory accuracy, productivity, and logistics
  • Support and be the key contact for all aspects of warehouse operations, including site services, and implementing necessary upgrades
  • Ensure operational excellence through all phases of material movement and storage
  • Lead a diverse and remote team of materials specialists focused on the fulfillment of material for both service contracts and parts sales
  • Responsible for inventory management, including preparing and executing Inventory Audits
  • Pull material from warehouse for shop use and ensuring material is issued to correct locomotive with all necessary information: position, serial number, removal reason, service sheet.
  • Managing stockouts, including obtaining updated ETAs for completely stocked out parts or parts low on stock.
  • Forecasting material needs for inbound and in-shop locomotives and pulling in any needed material in the timeliest and most cost-efficient manner.
  • Performing quality control processes on inbound and outbound shipments to meet company standards including checking shipment documents for discrepancies and resolving potential transportation delays or conflicts.
  • Recording of materials transactions such as receiving, distribution and Usage via appropriate system transaction or computer program.
  • Complete daily warehouse inspections
  • Compiling reports on various inventory metrics.
  • Processing warranty claims on any removed core that is warranty eligible.
  • Execute all materials fulfillment metrics, including LHFM, In-Transits, Due From, Cycle Counts, & Shopping’s.
  • Meet customer satisfaction rating through advanced planning and create ability to expedite shipments as required to meet deadlines
  • Lead efforts to update and streamline standard work practices
  • Manage expediting of shipments and delivery of vendor repair material in order to meet service center schedules
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and ethics in all dealings with internal customers and outside suppliers
  • Manage weekly schedule of Material Specialists
  • Manage cross training for Material’s team
  • Ensure the onboarding of new employees and support training
  • Wearing of the proper safety equipment is a must.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is a must.

  • Experienced in MS Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Experience in Oracle/SAP or other inventory control systems
  • Understanding of DOT/TDG Shipping Course Certification
  • Ability to obtain Wabtec’s Level 1 Materials Certification in prescribed time from hire (usually 12-18 months)
  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required
