Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent or higher, supplemented by some courses in Civil or Materials Technology from a recognized technical institute
- Knowledge of construction materials testing laboratory equipment and procedures
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations and record data with a high level of accuracy
- Ability to make decisions and perform work independently as well as with a team in a field environment
- Ability to perform the assigned tasks, such as repetitive bending and lifting up to 50 lbs (equipment, samples, etc), in various weather, environmental, traffic and construction conditions
- Basic computer skills, including ability to use Google Workspace
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring is a requirement for this positio
Responsibilities:
- Sample and test asphalt, soils, concrete, gravel and other related materials according to appropriate ASTM, AASHTO, CSA or other standards
- Perform inspections of asphalt and concrete plants that are producing materials for use on City of Edmonton construction projects
- Perform field coring on asphalt mixes for thickness and compaction determination
- Complete preventative maintenance on lab and field equipment and ensure all equipment is properly maintained to ensure it is in good and safe working order
- Operate field and laboratory test equipment
- Record test results and prepare standard test reports
- Perform all duties in accordance with provincial and municipal Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Conduct work in a manner that complies with the requirements set out in the City’s Environmental Management System (EMS)
- Other related duties as required
