Description:
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications for this position include a high school diploma plus completion of Red Seal Trade Qualification as a Heavy Duty Mechanic/Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Mechanic or *Automotive Mechanic, plus three (3) years of prior job-related experience, preferably in the solid waste industry. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with an Air Brake Endorsement is required, along with Authorized Inspector (AI) Certificate or ability to obtain certification within first 90 days worked.
- Consideration will only be made for Automotive Mechanics with their updated air-brake mechanics’ course.
SKILLS& ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance systems.
- Good working knowledge of automated start systems, hydraulics, engines, electrical systems, air conditioning, air brake system, electric drive motors and mobile equipment.
- Good record keeping, planning and organizational and prioritization skills with regards to equipment and maintenance schedules.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work under stress and make quick judgement calls.
Responsibilities:
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Mechanic in the Solid Waste Services department to work at our Regional Landfill in Cedar and Church Road Transfer Station in Parksville.
The Mechanic contributes to the effective operation of the Solid Waste Services Department through the diagnosis, repair, and modification of RDN solid waste vehicles, RDN Fleet vehicles and equipment. This position supports the department by assisting team members in their duties, as required, to meet service expectations, departmental goals, and objectives.
