Description:
ABOUT US
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
Responsibilities:
We now have an opportunity for a Mechanical Beamline Technician/Senior Mechanical Beamline Technician to support the scientists and technical support groups associated with the beamline during beamline maintenance, commissioning, and operations.
Your duties will include:
- Maintaining the equipment already existing on the beamline and work with the beamline scientists and engineers in designing and installing new beamline equipment as part of upgrades.
- Help users to carry out experiments, machining small pieces of equipment such as sample holders, and integrating ancillary equipment into the experimental areas.
- Ensuring that all beamline work is carried out in a safe manner, and that the equipment is appropriately integrated and installed.
- Work with other staff from the four beamlines of the Crystallography group to support their operations.
Beamline I19 at Diamond is a facility tailored for small-molecule single-crystal diffraction. Our beamline utilises an intense X-ray beam (5-30 keV) to delve into the intricate structural properties of a range of materials of relevance to pure and applied chemistry, as well as industry, and pharmaceutical compounds.
Applicants will be considered at either Technician or Senior Technician level, depending on the strength of your skills, experience, and qualifications.
