Position Overview:
As part of the talented Mechanical Engineering team, you will work with the Digital Systems mechanical team supporting the creation of successful products for the marine environment. Key components of your role will include mechanical design, product testing and production support. There will be a heavy focus on thermal design i.e. the specification, design, test & evaluation of heat transfer methods from electronic devices.

Essential Functions

:

  • Full cradle to grave mechanical product development of new, innovative marine electronics products.
  • Work on associated technology projects to support future products & features
  • Provide analysis and problem-solving skills to support the rest of the design group.
  • Partner with the simulation team to validate thermal solutions
  • Partner with electronics and software teams to ensure designs & test methods are representative
  • Build and test prototypes of new products.
  • Assist development of product requirements
  • Develop test methods & equipment for thermal tests
  • Collaborative design with cross functional, multi-site teams.
  • Work with Industrial Design, ensure designs look great & are manufacturable.
  • Advanced usage of CAD and PDM tools, following Navico guidelines.
  • Work with DFM, DFA, DTC and DFMEA processes.
  • Create comprehensive test plans, perform full validation testing, write detailed test reports.
  • Contribute to development of lessons learnt database, and ensure the learnings are applied in new designs.
  • Create and modify 2d engineering drawings, working with Navico revision control systems.
  • Proactively participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Work with offshore suppliers, review tool designs.
  • Attend tool trials and factory assembly builds.

Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree or certificate (BEng / BSc)
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in 3D CAD design skills, preferably using PTC Creo. Surfacing experience desirable, but not essential.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of consumer electronic enclosures is highly desirable.
  • Experience in thermal design, test & simulation is desirable, specifically heat dissipation from electronic components.
  • Experience in Plastic Injection Moulded and/or Die Cast part design
  • Experience in designing waterproof product, or enclosures exposed to harsh environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience within a marine company and marine related products
  • Strong analysis skills
  • Disciplined approach to mechanical design and development
  • Continuous improvement mindset
