Description:
A globally renowned materials manufacturing business is recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its R&D team based in Leicester on a permanent basis. As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing and developing new technology for the manufacturing site – in line with safety requirements.
MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER REQUIREMENTS
- Degree level qualification in Chemical Engineering or closely related.
- Strong 3-D CAD (SolidWorks), 2-D (AutoCAD) experience - designing and modifying production equipment/bespoke machinery for manufacture.
- Manufacturing experience.
- Computer literacy. Proficient in the use of statistical software and Microsoft Office Suite including MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or equivalent.
- Strong communication & reporting skills at all organisational levels
- Experience delivering engineering projects
- Experience of data driven/problem solving
- Process risk and hazard assessment tools (e.g. PFMEA, FMEA, HAZOP)
- Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, Kaizen etc)
Responsibilities:
- Design and development of existing & introduction of new technology to the factory in line with safety requirements
- Identification and implementation of process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs and improve product quality
- Innovation and technology development (including transfer between sites) to ensure best / consistent practices are used throughout the organisation
- Delivery of projects within budget, scope and safety requirements
- Design, development and industrialisation of new and existing manufacturing technologies from various stages of the TRL scale
- Identification and implementation of process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality and safety
- NPD introduction to the factory and optimisation of the process
- Promote a safety-first culture based on human relations and develop individuals through effective coaching
