Description:
MECHANICAL DESIGN LEAD
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Mechanical Design Lead to take responsibility for leading a team of mechanical designers in delivering complex mechanical systems and complete products. You will play a key role in coordinating with various engineering disciplines to develop system-level solutions that meet component, system, product, and client requirements. In this role, you will also support the growth and development of the mechanical design team and work closely with the business development team to support proposal efforts and respond to client inquiries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
- Substantial experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on transmission, hybrids, electric drive units (EDUs), and electrified powertrains.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and the ability to interpret FEA and CFD results and apply them to the design process.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and their impact on design, with hands-on experience in DFMA.
- Proficient in producing and reviewing high-quality 2D technical drawings with a solid understanding of GD&T.
- Expertise in 3D CAD tools (e.g., CREO, CATIA, NX).
- Experience with PLM systems; Windchill experience preferred.
- Proven leadership experience, including leading small teams.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Pay: $98,000.00 - $127,000.00 per year

Responsibilities:
- Lead the concept and detailed 3D mechanical design of systems, assemblies, and complex components, such as transmission casings, rotating components, gears, and injection-moulded parts.
- Perform detailed mechanical design work, including stress calculations, FMEA, 2D detailing, layout creation, and tolerance stack analysis.
- Collaborate closely with FEA, CFD, and simulation teams to ensure that products meet all design validation requirements.
- Work with manufacturing and process engineers to ensure designs meet DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) requirements.
- Manage the Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation as required throughout engineering projects.
- Liaise with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely availability of information and prompt responses to customer requests.
- Coach and mentor design engineers on best practices, design techniques, and departmental processes.
- Take on project leadership roles such as Chief Designer or Chief Engineer as required, leading small- to mid-sized project teams.
- Contribute to business development by providing mechanical design insights during proposal development and customer inquiries.
- Stay informed on market sector trends and technological advancements.
