Midwest Mechanical is seeking a motivated mechanical engineer with a high level of ownership, creativity and attention to detail to join our high performing team.
The candidate should be proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit drafting specific to HVAC to produce detailed and accurate drawings for budgeting, sales, permit and construction purposes. The engineer is familiar with HVAC design principles including pipe and ductwork sizing and routing best practices. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively communicate with internal sales and design staff as well as architects, engineers and customers as needed. The role also includes heating & cooling/load calculations, code and safety compliance, equipment selection, basic controls design, drawing details, cross-trade coordination, duct and piping layout and construction documentation.

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline preferred.
  • 5-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensed in Illinois
  • Reliable transportation for Chicagoland site visits. The position requires no overnight travel.
  • Familiarity with air, hydronic, natural gas, compressed air, steam and electrical systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine best fit design option(s) by evaluating project constraints, customer goals and budget
  • Visit facilities and collect field information for the design process
  • Support Project Sales Engineers budget development
  • Equipment selections, load calculations and energy modeling
  • Design and layout HVAC piping, ductwork, equipment and associated accessories
  • Understand and incorporate design constraints
  • Create shop, coordination drawings with other trades and supporting documents
  • Select and refine equipment and approve submittals with vendors
  • Review and organize submittals for compliance with design specifications, applicable codes
  • Management of Revit services and BIM library
  • Communicate drawing revisions internally and with the field
  • Support field personnel requests for information
  • Create concept sketches, As-Built drawings and other supporting documentation as needed
