Description:

The Design Engineer will be generating engineering documentation that will be in Compliance with pressure part design standards such as ASME and other internationally recognized standards and Codes. You will be developing technically appropriate solutions and participating in the coordination of the work activities and deadlines between all involved disciplines and Propak/IST’s customers. Continue to increase your capabilities, and independence through on-the-job training, and ownership of tasks, building trust within the department, and assisting with mentoring/training junior engineers.
The Design Engineer must be able to complete advanced, complex, and confidential tasks requiring a strong understanding of basic engineering principles of HRSG/OTSG and their role in the plants. The Design Engineer is expected to have a fundamental understanding of the process(s) used in the related industries and to describe this to other team members. Work cooperatively, sharing best practices, with other team members and Propak/IST groups. Where possible identify training opportunities that will assist you in your development.

EDUCATION

  • A graduate of a recognized diploma in Mechanical/Process/Chemical Engineering program.
  • APEGA/PEO/ P.Eng. membership is an asset.

EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Engineer in good standing
  • 5+ years’ experience in Engineering Design work related to the power, process steam plants. General knowledge about equipment for the oil and gas or petrochemical industry would be an asset

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct ASME pressure part strength and structural calculations related to HRSG/OTSG components.
  • Conduct and Coordinate preparation of all calculations required to substantiate the OTSG/WHRU design.
  • Takes lead on vendor related issues including generating specifications and evaluating bids to ensure the equipment is properly integrated into the project
  • Prepare technical package for pressure parts design registration (ASME, PED,..)
  • Technical review of process flowsheets.
  • Review internal and customer interface drawings.
  • Disposition of shop non-conformances.
  • Production support as required.
  • Provide input to the overall project schedule by creating and maintaining a schedule for engineering activities.
  • Responsible, in concert with other Engineering members for reviewing and implementing Engineering Specifications.
  • Prepare progress and budget reports to senior management, in conjunction with the Project Manager, including the contract risks and opportunities.
  • Technical support for operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Technical support for OTSG erection, start-up and testing.
  • Ensures each project meets the contract scope of supply and design specifications.
  • Independently analyzes complex problems by communicating with other departments within Propak/IST, leaders, employees and customers.
  • Works with junior engineers to create/review/modify control philosophies/narratives for power, steam, oil and gas equipment
