Mechanical Design Engineer
Wotton under Edge / Hybrid (3 days office based)
Salary circa £35,000 depending on experience
Renishaw’s CMM and Gauging Products Division (CGPD) has a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer.
We are looking for a creative mechanical engineer to help support and improve the Flexible Gauging System (Equator) product range. The role offers opportunities to work on many different areas of the system ranging from the diagnosis/problem solving of issues, development of immediate and long-term solutions through to design, testing and production cut in. The design work includes electro-mechanical systems, motion systems, fixtures and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Product/production design support
  • Issue diagnosis and solution creation
  • Product improvement design
  • Prototype design testing and prove-out validation
  • Engineering analysis, design reviews and FMEAs
  • Design for manufacture and assembly
  • Liaise with other teams to ensure efficient solution development and cut in to manufacturing

Key requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar relevant subject
  • Proven competence in mechanical design within an industrial environment
  • Experience in 3D CAD packages to create designs and detailed drawings (ideally Siemens NX and Teamcenter)
  • Good knowledge of current manufacturing techniques and technology
  • Experience of prototype manufacture and test rig/product assembly
  • Familiarity with geometric tolerance definition and understanding

Desirable requirements

  • Experience using ANSYS for Finite Element Analysis
  • Knowledge of DFMEA processes
  • Appreciation of related compliance regulations
  • Appreciation engineering change impact
  • Design of Experiments
  • Experience using MATLAB
