JOB SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Designer/Detailer will assist in the designing/detailing of automation components and assemblies, preparing bill of materials, coordinating workflow with Design team leader. Provide appropriate documentation and technical advice to both shop floor personnel and customers to ensure that each tool meets customer quality and delivery requirements.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College or University diploma or degree in engineering discipline
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings (e.g. blueprints)
  • Good organizational/ time management skills
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Familiar with CAD software packages (Unigraphics NX/Solidworks)
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Understanding manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, forging, and injection molding is essential for designing automotive parts that can be efficiently produced.
  • Knowledge of Automotive Systems: Familiarity with automotive systems, components, and technologies can help engineers design parts that integrate seamlessly into vehicles and meet industry standards and regulations.
  • Project Management: The ability to manage projects effectively, including setting goals, establishing timelines, and coordinating resources, is valuable for overseeing the development and production of automotive parts.

Responsibilities:

Your supervisor may from time to time ask you to perform other related duties not specifically included in this job description. This job’s key responsibilities include:

  • Work independently and within work groups to design, develop and coordinate the manufacture of fixtures and finishing machinery
  • Design detailed assembly/component including drawings in “Unigraphics NX”
  • Generate complete BOM and material ordering of components/suppliers
  • Back-up and maintain files
  • Procure and outsource jobs to suppliers
  • Periodically meet with suppliers to review purchasing and automation requirements
  • Complete projects within assigned time frame
  • Occasionally travel to local plants for reviewing projects
  • Selection and ordering of materials to optimize costs and timing. Select materials for jobs that are cost effective and meet the technical requirements for the job
  • Assist designers in the completion of project related to new equipment or revisions and prepare operation manual and related documentation
  • Enter material specification on drawings and order materials using visual manufacturing software
