Job Description
AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office.
This position is expected to begin on June 2025.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following items:

  • Performs specific portions of a broader assignment under the mentoring of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and construction drawings.
  • Evaluate, select, apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and judgement based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings using building information modeling.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Performs work in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete the primary design elements for engineering works.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT / FE)
  • Experience utilizing industry standard software packages such as AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam (pdf editor), or similar.
  • Full understanding and ability to complete accurate and coordinated project design assignments with the ability to review team member’s work for quality.
  • Experience sizing ductwork systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
  • Experience sizing hot water, condenser water, and chilled water piping systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 62.1 – Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 – Energy Standard for Buildings.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Comfortable working in a high energy environment with frequent deadlines.
  • Successfully performed the role of a design engineer on various projects.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
