Role
The Associate is the day to day manager for all activities within the group, including all technical, scheduling, project management and personnel issues.
Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Build key customer relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Work with staff from various departments to increase sales opportunities and maximize revenue.
  • Manage existing clients to ensure ongoing satisfaction and retain business.
  • Identify business opportunities, generate leads, and seek out partnerships.
  • Attend general industry events.
  • Work with Senior Management to determine organizational strategy and initiatives and execute strategy in the industry.
  • Create Proposals and Fee Letters as requested by the Principal.

General Management

  • Successfully manage the group with limited supervision.
  • Keep Principal apprised of any necessary information.
  • Ensure that all direct reports are scheduling their workload appropriately, maximizing productive time and allowing all employees to meet management’s expectations.
  • Provide insightful and enthusiastic leadership, paying attention to employee morale and career aspirations.
  • Complete performance reviews of all direct reports with Principal.
  • Assist with interviewing new employees as requested.
  • Work with the heads of all functional areas to solve inter-departmental problems.
  • Train, motivate, and supervise all direct reports.
  • Ensure company procedures are being followed by all Group personnel.

Production

  • Act as the first level of escalation for client and staff issues within the Group. Attend and participate in periodic Base Building Mechanical meetings if called upon by Principal.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and design standards.
  • Ensure that all projects within the Group are staying on track and on schedule.
  • Ensure that the finished product (drawings, specifications, reports, etc.) meet the client’s expectations, follow company standards, and are technically accurate and complete (i.e., be responsible for the production quality of your team).
  • Facilitate coordination and communication within the Group to support smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Inform Group members of any upcoming scheduling issues.
  • Monitor Production Utilization & Efficiency for the Group, reporting any deficiencies to the Principal.
  • Maintain projects overall financial health, including account receivable.
  • Resource for all project management questions from Group members.
  • Review the Production Report weekly with Principal.
  • Technical resource for Group members.
  • Undertake peer reviews.
  • Act as Project Manager as required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • A Professional designation (P.Eng., C.E.T., RCDD)
  • Experience in the Engineering Consulting industry considered an asset
  • Knowledge of OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and Engineering programs
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
  • Effective skills in project management, operations, budgeting, business process and productivity improvements
  • Self-motivated, operates with a high degree of independence and can visualize possibilities and opportunities
  • Strong understanding of business principles and systems for administration and management of projects and resources
  • Builds strong relationships: listens and learns from peers and superiors to identify areas for collaboration, problem solving and personal development
  • Ability to predict and understand technological trends and their effect on business or strategic
  • Demonstrates customer focus: demonstrates sound judgment when key customer decisions need to be made in their area of responsibility, within their scope of accountability
  • Proactively seeks opportunities for improvement of processes within own area of across other departments
  • Aptitude and experience in adapting to, managing and facilitating change, willing to challenge the status quo
  • Proven effective problem-solving and analytical ability; makes sound and timely decisions; able to timely identify key issues and/or complex situations and engage key stakeholders
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
  • Strong interpersonal communication, and relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of building services is an asset
  • Experience with REVIT considered an asset
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
