Mechanical Engineer
BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.

POSITION SUMMARY

BB&E is currently looking for a Mechanical Engineer to provide Mechanical Engineering design support services to support Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects and associated efforts undertaken by NAVFAC Pacific, Planning Design and Construction Directorate, Design Division (PDC4) at NAVFAC Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, HI.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • US Citizen
  • Security Clearance: Secret (Tier 3 preferred) or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated experience designing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and plumbing systems for new construction and renovation projects with construction costs exceeding $20M or designing petroleum, oil, lubricant (POL) systems on projects with construction amounts exceeding $10M. Designs should encompass a wide variety of HVAC systems and/or equipment, including but not limited to variable primary chilled water systems, air cooled chillers, water cooled chillers, split D-X, unitary, DOAS, VAV, HVAC controls and VRF systems; and a wide variety of plumbing systems, including but not limited to domestic cold and hot water heating systems, compressed air and medical gas systems
  • Well versed with DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and the use of AutoCAD 2022 and Revit 2021
  • Demonstrated knowledge of broad-based Engineering principles and versed in the discipline being hired
  • Sound understanding of technical concepts, principles and practices applicable to multi-disciplined engineering project design
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing correspondence, written reports, and in briefing management personnel
  • Demonstrated experience in the use and application of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), AutoCAD and/or Revit, etc.
  • The ability to adapt to new software such as eCMS, MS Teams and Zoom may also be necessary
  • P.E. desired, but not required

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Minimum of 6 years of Design Management and/or Design experience
  • Graduate of an accredited Engineering college curriculum (4-year degree)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time
  • Able to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Capable of light lifting, under 10 lbs.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with team members to execute project scope, schedules, and budgets in conformance with the project and customer requirements
  • Facilitates the minimization of project delays by providing technical reviews and recommendations when requested within predetermined timeframes
  • Researches codes, guidance, policies, procedures, processes, criteria and Federal laws and regulations and provides sound technical recommendations both verbally and in writing
  • Applies innovative technical principles, practices and theories to the resolution of technical issues
  • Coordinates with the Government client, NAVFAC team members, leadership, project stakeholders, and various regulatory agencies
  • Coordinates and facilitates meetings, makes recommendations based on project requirements, coordinates workflow processes, schedules/coordinates plans of actions and milestones (POAMs) and effectively communicates findings to project personnel; provides written minutes for all meetings
  • Reviews technical reports, RFIs, designs, design changes for both design-build and design bid build projects, project deliverables, submittals, cost proposals from contractors, etc. to ensure compliance with customer and RFP requirements
  • Provides technical support for the review of the commissioning plan, design and construction submittals, and field inspections
  • Provides technical support for the construction field activities
  • Provides summary of accomplishments during weekly meetings and in a prepared monthly status report
  • Field investigations are excluded; no travel required
