POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

Position: Mechanical Engineer II
Department: Utilities & Central Energy (UCE)
Reporting Relationship: Senior Project Manager, UCE

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar, related degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ of Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil, and Structural Engineering construction practices.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application .
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with Designers, Engineers, and Project Managers.
  • A pragmatic and applied approach, while at the same time fostering a creative examination of customer needs and solutions.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Maturity and self-confidence to work with colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to assimilate a range of ideas, programs, or alternatives into a set of recommendations.
  • Effective meeting management skills.
  • Proficient writing skills and experience generating technical reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilities generation and distribution systems design.
  • Ability to establish rapport and credibility with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the company in a professional matter.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Strong experience in infrastructure projects and/or plant operations is preferred.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Responsibilities:

POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanical Engineer II plays a key role in the successful execution of projects. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this individual will provide technical and engineering excellence, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed – both externally and internally. The successful candidate will also contribute to a dynamic team environment by being proactive, communicating clearly and frequently, and modeling a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Prepare engineering documents and equipment specifications to meet contracted scope of work and to ensure code compliance.
  • Perform engineering calculations.
  • Develops estimates for assigned scope of work and is accountable for ensuring we stay within scope.
  • Provides technical and engineering support to other departments/disciplines.
  • May approve final utilities systems/equipment selections and drawing submittals.
  • Leads utilities systems/equipment procurement efforts.
  • May manage assigned projects, driving them to completion.
  • Supports the business development process through input to proposals, meeting and presenting to prospective customers, etc.
  • May represent KFI at conferences, customer events, and through membership in industry associations.
