Description:

McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Burnaby, BC location. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience specializing in building mechanical systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree specializing in mechanical engineering from a recognized university
  • Must be registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC; Registration in other western provinces and territories is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience in the building construction industry
  • Experience with recreation facilities/ pool/ refrigeration systems and/or DDC systems is an asset.

  • Strong leadership, technical writing skills, and verbal communication skills including presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong work ethic
  • Ability to engage in creative and critical solutions independently and in a team environment
  • Check work of others for accuracy and completeness
  • Manage team to meet project budget and schedule
  • Ability to direct and mentor team members
  • Technically proficient in Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk CADD/Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Project
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Proven track record of project management skills and experience
  • Strong knowledge of building and mechanical codes and standards
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE energy audits an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical systems, constructability, materials and industry associated standards
  • Evaluation of design quality and supporting activities to assure a high level of technological quality throughout the firm
  • Receive and offer constructive criticism and communicate professionally
  • Scale process, design and effort as required by various roles on projects
  • Hold valid driver’s license and be willing to undergo security screening

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare detailed mechanical designs from concept, tender, permit, and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential buildings
  • Review mechanical designs prepared by others as needed
  • Travel to project locations as needed, usually for a half-day or full-day, to collect data, monitor construction progress, or attend design and coordination meetings. Some out-of-town travel may be necessary.
  • Utilize mechanical engineering expertise and construction techniques to find solutions to design or on-site problems.
  • Collaborate with technical staff from other disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure everyone is aligned on mechanical design.
  • Review work of junior engineers and technologists to guarantee that engineering outputs meet project demands, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
  • Manage the mechanical engineering aspect of various-sized projects.
  • Review existing building mechanical systems and prepare mechanical assessment reports
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants
  • Complete site reviews / field investigation
  • Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally
  • Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations
  • Develop/ review and approve budgets and cash flows
  • Develop / review shop drawings
  • Carry out contract administration duties
  • Assist in preparation of technical proposal material for all projects
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to develop technical content for proposals
  • Act as a mentor, teacher and coach to less experienced team members with the goal of growing and guiding them through their careers
  • Evaluate the quality of technical design and supports activities which assure a high level of technological quality throughout the firm
