POSITION SUMMARY

At PROENERGY, we emphasize a ONE-TEAM approach where our Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start-Up, Document Controls, and Operations teams work seamlessly for our clients as a solutions provider for the power industry. We seek a Mechanical Engineer reporting to our Principal Mechanical Engineer that has a passion for ownership and pride in the quality of our deliverables. The Mechanical Engineer will create deliverables for our EPC projects including calculations, equipment specifications, and P&IDs. As we establish our in-house mechanical standards you will help to review our third party client designs, including equipment suppliers. Your ability to adapt and be flexible will be invaluable as you coordinate multiple jobs, develop guidelines and procedures, and provide design oversight to our subsidiaries. This position would start as hybrid/remote role as we identify our Kansas City metro area office location.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience writing equipment procurement specifications and reviewing vendor submittals for compliance with the specifications or EPC contract.
  • Familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD applications to help coordinate drawing deliverables.
  • Basic understanding of design software such as: Plant 3D, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Fathom, Arrow, Caesar or Autopipe, Word and Excel. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Participates in team environment effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to the success of the team.
  • Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities and tasks with set expectations.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, Designers and constructability personnel in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish our goals.
  • Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with the intent to pursue a full Professional Engineers (PE) License.
  • Experience working on an EPC team.
  • Aconex Document Controls software knowledge
  • General understanding of construction and constructability practices & principles
  • Working knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal and estimate process

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of power projects.
  • Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Write technical specifications for equipment and material procurement or installation during construction.
  • Produce design calculations and system flow models for the major balance of plant piping systems and equipment within the plant.
  • Help to develop and maintain a series of piping system design guidelines and specifications that adhere to appropriate industry codes and standards.
  • Help to develop and maintain a database of standard pipe support details to implement on new EPC projects.
  • Maintain a series of standard equipment specifications by providing regular updates implementing design improvements or lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Work with in house and third-party designers to route piping systems for power plant systems including simple cycle gas balance of plant systems.
  • Quality check the project 3D model with the design team to identify interferences and constructability optimizations.
  • Resolve client comments to the mechanical deliverables.
  • Complete as-builts by utilizing RFIs, ECNs and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
  • Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.
  • Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure design standardization and templating of our PowerFLX work.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices and find practical applications.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Check design for consistency, safety, operability, quality and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
