ABOUT US

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Responsibilities:

To sustain and extend its discovery potential, the Large Hadron Collider, CERN’s flagship accelerator, will undergo a major upgrade known as High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), for which new large-scale cryogenic infrastructure will be required. As a Mechanical Engineer in the Technology Department (TE), Cryogenics Group (CRG), Mechanical and Engineering support section (ME), you will join the HL-LHC cryogenics work-package project team in charge of the design and construction of the new Cryogenic Distribution System for the HL-LHC project and of the upgrade of existing equipment. For this purpose, you will: • Design and develop advanced cryogenic equipment. • Perform thermo-mechanical analyses of cryogenic equipment, including the application of finite element analysis. • Conduct thermal-hydraulic analyses of cryogenic systems. • Verify the compliance of cryogenic equipment with applicable codes and standards. • Participate to technical reviews to validate the design developed by industrial suppliers. • Assist the engineer in charge in overseeing the suppliers’ design activities. • Depending on project evolution, contribute to the follow-up of the production and the installation of the Cryogenic Distribution System.
