MECHANICAL ENGINEER (TEST LABS)

Based in Dumfries, Southwest Scotland, Gates (U.K.) Ltd is a major international company specialising in the production of power transmission belts for the automotive and industrial markets. Our continuing success has resulted in this exciting opportunity based in our Dumfries Plant.

WHAT TO EXPECT

We are looking for an ambitious, forward thinking, open-minded and well-rounded individual to join our team. Working full-time from our Dumfries office, you will be a Test Engineer within our Test Centre.
Reporting to the Test Centre Manager, the Test Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting operations and ensuring the highest standards of excellence in our testing processes. your responsibilities will include:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree level of equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant experience in a test, maintenance/manufacturing environment.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred).
  • Proactive attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Responsibilities:

  • Supervising sub-groups and individuals within the Test Centre.
  • Operating measuring equipment and data logging equipment safely.
  • Designing and managing projects related to equipment building, modification, commissioning, and development to suit test requirements and ensure rig consistency.
  • Producing, controlling, and issuing documentation.
  • Developing advanced knowledge of Test Centre software to provide data and presentations as needed.
  • Promoting standards of excellence and commitment to continual improvement.
  • Taking responsibility for issued test and rig projects.
  • Supporting current and future Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) site and corporate initiatives.
