We are actively seeking a Field Mechanical Lead. Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading mechanical technicians in the safe and reliable maintenance of all equipment and assets for our Montney Operating Area. The Mechanical Lead will assist in planning, directing, and coordinating technical maintenance activities and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements (AER, ABSA, ASME, Canadian Electrical Code, etc.) This position will play a key role on the area maintenance team, which will focus on personal safety, process safety, environmental stewardship, and effective maintenance for asset reliability.
This is a contract position based out of our Grande Prairie Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Champions Strathcona policies, values, regulatory compliance, and the operational integrity program.
  • Demonstrates through leadership and culture, provides guidance, coaching, OJT training and assessments
  • Responsible to the appropriate Supervisor, the mechanical lead works within his/her area of responsibility to organize and supervise mechanical maintenance contractors to perform day-to-day operations activities (e.g., procedures) in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • The mechanical lead is expected to communicate expectations of workplace performance including advising, directing, initiating letters of direction.
  • Planning & Scheduling - Reviews work requests to determine personnel requirements, procures materials necessary, ensures tools and equipment are available, and establishes schedules.
  • Support the detailed plans, scoping requirements, resources, material requirements, work order follow-up and the backlog management systems.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots all site-specific mechanical equipment to optimize operations.
  • Manages all mechanical maintenance activities associated with turnarounds, commissioning and start up projects.
  • Manages all mechanical maintenance records (e.g., work permits, and required reports) for accuracy and timely reporting.
  • Manage PM condition monitoring programs (Maximo).
  • Responds effectively to enquiries from operations, engineering, or other teams.
  • Perform hands on trouble shooting, running maintenance calls, and equipment failure investigation.
  • Member of the PSSR review team for mechanical work scopes.
  • Maintains a working inventory of parts, supplies or equipment.
  • Manages all overhaul and machine shop work.
  • Ensures that all time tickets and all vendors invoices are accurately coded and signed.

Qualifications Include:

  • 10+ years of previous operations/industrial maintenance experience or equivalent mix of formal education and experience.
  • Expected to have fully tooled service truck.
  • Strong Caterpillar experience.
  • Strong Waukesha experience.
  • Experience working on reciprocating water/condensate pumps/instrument air compressors.
  • Strong social skills and the ability to form relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, adapt, and be flexible to fast changing demands, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Strong digital literacy including Microsoft Office Suite, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo).
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Team player who is willing to continually and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information in a team-oriented environment.
  • Intuitive judgement abilities and sound decision-making skill
  • Experience with cost reduction and continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to maintenance contractors as required and provide leadership in implementing change to achieve continuous improvements.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is required.

Work Environment:

  • No shift work, plant work environment. On call after hours and weekends as required.
  • Primarily work in an office environment with occasional travel as required.
