Description:
The Senior Piping Designer/Engineer Lead will work within the Product Design and Development Team. The Product Design team is responsible for performing custom Mechanical and Piping systems for our customers in the oil & gas and chemical industries. The group services both new plant projects and existing systems. The Product Design Team interfaces with the Project Management Team, Engineering Team and is customer facing.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Interacts with Project Managers to complete project scope related to drawing requirements, may be required to run prints and other Project Document deliverables or assist to prepare documentation packages for issue.
- Piping/mechanical designer will create, maintain and update engineering drawings including piping plans, details, and schematics, equipment layouts, and P&IDs for company pipelines, terminals, and pump stations.
- Designer will assist engineers and field personnel with the design and revisions of pipeline pumping station and terminal drawings.
- Assists in the development and implementation of company design standards. Field work is required that consists of walk-downs of facilities with field personnel to mark-up and revise required drawings.
- Complete Piping Design and Layouts in accordance with Industry Practices using AutoCAD 2D & 3D Software.
- Prepare construction documents which includes General Arrangements, Piping Isometrics, & Piping Plans.
- Generate CAD drawings (orthographic, plans and sections, and isometrics) to support engineering, interacts with other departments and/or suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
- Prepare material takeoffs of partial or complete projects.
- Check and verify the discipline design on projects.
- Prepare design sketches for use by drafting personnel.
- Check vendor shop drawings and construction drawings.
- Utilize knowledge and experience to solve and deliver outcomes to customers.
- Provide leadership and technical direction to personnel and projects.
- Support procurement activities associated with component selection and acquisition.
- Develop new 3d objects (in Plant 3D) from 2D vendor drawings and information.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Ability to develop & lead a high performing design team
- Licensed Professional Engineer (MEP) or P. Eng designation in Ontario.
- At least 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
- The successful candidate shall be skilled in the design of mechanical and piping systems for pipeline industries.
- Background and Knowledge of CSA Standard B51 (Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code)
- Knowledge of ASME B31.1 (Power Piping) and B31.3 (Process Piping),
- Firm understanding of fluid flow and control components.
- Design knowledge of pipe supports and optimum pipe support location.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent fluency in English
- Knowledge of material specifications and standards.
- Previous experience as a technical specialist (is an asset)
- Structural engineering design (is an asset)
- Ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to apply continuous improvement practices to streamline design process and improve drawing/model accuracy.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Ability to work effectively when presented with an aggressive project schedule.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Navisworks, Plant 3D and MS Office
