Description:
Under the direction of the Medical Director of MRI, the technologist will be responsible for the day to day MRI scanning using a variety of MRI specific equipment.
Responsible for working and performing duties as assigned in MRI across KHSC, including areas at all hospital sites, and off-site locations based on operational needs.
Within this role the MRI Technologist is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston General Hospital strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have successfully completed a graduate certificate in MRI technology;
- Must be registered with the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario
- Technically proficient with MRI equipment and coils;
- Familiar with HIS/RIS and PACS systems;
- Familiar with Power Injectors;
- Certified and competent with contrast media injections;
- Be able to organize and deal with competing priorities on a regular basis;
- Time management skills - turnaround times must be as short as possible to meet the patient’s needs;
- Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently;
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with all types of people;
- Demonstrated ability with above average written and verbal communication skills, including good grammar, composition and spelling;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Satisfactory criminal reference check & vulnerable sector search required.

Responsibilities:
- Applies principles of safety management to patients and to employees and the public when entering the magnetic field
- Screening of all individuals prior to entering magnetic field
- Positions and transfers patients as necessary in the performance of duties
- Practices sterile techniques
- Competent in all aspects of MRI imaging including but not limited to: neuro, MSK, abdo-pelvic, breast imaging and biopsy, cardiac, conscious sedation and general anesthetic MRI procedures
- Documenting all cases and forwarding to PACS for radiologist review and reporting
- Organizes and coordinates emergent or priority 1 patient procedures within the magnet when needed;
- The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
