Reporting to the Manager, External Communications, this role will be a great choice for someone who excels at building and maintaining positive relationships and plays a significant role in enhancing NAIT’s brand. This position works closely with clients and colleagues to continually seek opportunities to promote and protect NAIT’s reputation by anticipating and planning for a variety of situations and preparing spokespeople for engagement.
This role is integral to NAIT’s success and involves a high level of strategic thinking to share NAIT’s stories in a way that resonates with various audiences. In this role you’ll collaborate with both internal and external partners to cultivate media interest through a variety of channels by crafting strong key messages and content, utilizing best practices, and developing long-form communication strategies.
The decisions made by the position have great influence over how NAIT is portrayed in the media and the position must be a confident self-starter and able to make decisions quickly and without cumbersome approvals.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to build effective working relationships with clients and colleagues rooted in NAIT’s values.
- Superior issues management skills and strong, versatile writing and editing skills.
- Working knowledge of Canadian Press style guide, privacy and disclosure matters and communications best practices is required.
- Ability to measure and report on work to demonstrate effectiveness, and instill a culture of collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to engage in continuous learning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree or Diploma in Public Relations or Communications.
- Minimum 7-10 years of related experience.
- Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $82,189.64 - $108,886.96 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively with key internal stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Work closely with clients and colleagues to identify emerging issues and opportunities while developing and supporting content for various communication channels, including preparing media pitches and briefing materials.
- Monitor and report on NAIT mentions in media outlets, analyze external markets, and identify emerging trends and opportunities.
- Respond to media inquiries and contribute to the development of issues management and reputation management strategies.
- Develop and maintain training materials and deliver media training to faculty, staff, and students—either individually or in group settings such as departmental meetings or professional development sessions.
- Address unplanned events and incidents impacting NAIT as a member of the Crisis Communications Team, ensuring timely and effective responses (potential to occur after hours).
- Coordinate with industry partners’ media relations and communications teams to co-manage events and announcements.
