We are looking for two talented and passionate individuals to support the Medical Assistance in Dying program.
This role reports to the Clinical Program Director, Surgery & Perioperative Services

KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Demonstration and awareness of and adherence to professional and ethical standards required
  • Regulated Health Professional in good standing with the relevant professional College
  • Experience supporting patients and family members at end of life
  • Effective and empathic verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition and problem solving skills
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Program planning and evaluation methodology skills required
  • Commitment to collaborative inter-professional practice
  • Ability to attend to detail
  • Ability to work effectively independently and under stressful conditions
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple demands
  • Knowledge of data management programs

Responsibilities:

Intake and Processing of Requests for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) – responding to inquiries and referrals from patients and healthcare providers in a non-judgemental, sensitive, and respectful manner; triaging referrals; identifying physicians/nurse practitioners (NPs) to complete eligibility assessments and provide MAID within the hospital setting.
Education, Coaching, and Mentorship for MAID – fielding questions and providing education, coaching, and mentorship to referring physicians/NPs, patients and family members, healthcare teams, and provision team members about all aspects of MAID process.
Implementation, Operation and Evaluation of MAID– coordinating and overseeing provision of MAID in accordance with hospital policies and procedures and applicable legal and professional standards; maintaining database and producing quarterly reports on provision of MAID; conducting debrief sessions as needed; developing and measuring performance indicators to monitor quality.
