Description:

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in providing medication monitoring, medical screenings and assessments of the clients in the drug and alcohol program.
All activities must support the Firetree, Ltd. mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Applicant must be a graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Preference will be given to individuals with experience and training in the addictions field.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, the employee should have strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook). Must have the ability to learn other computer software programs as required by assigned tasks. It is expected the individual will be proficient in handling and use of the required routine medical devices.

Responsibilities:

The position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.

  • Assists in pre-admission screening of prospective clients.
  • Assists in initial assessment and completion of the nursing portion of the medical intake on all new clients within 24 hours of admission.
  • Identifies both emergent and routine medical needs of clients and initiates appropriate intervention, including referral to Medical Director.
  • Assists in supervision of the monitored client self-medication program, and provides appropriate education to all staff and clients involved in this program.
  • May provide scheduled didactic lectures to clients on medical/addiction, health maintenance, and related issues.
  • Reports client and facility medical issues to the treatment team in absence of the Medical Director.
  • Documents interventions, nursing observations, and condition changes in the medical portion of the client file.
  • Secures appropriate consent for release and obtains medical records and reports from outside providers that are necessary for the continued care of clients.
  • Initiates the TB testing program for clients and staff in accordance with the State Department of Health policy.
  • Effectively use Enterprise Manager (EM) as needed to carry out duties of the position.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by the Medical Director or Facility Director.
