Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Medical Assistant Senior navigates the patient through the biopsy process and follows up with the result while prioritizing patient safety as well as patient satisfaction. This position continuously communicates with our patients, imaging staff and referring physicians.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • At least 4 years of medical assisting work experience in Women’s Health

Preferred:

  • Certified Medical Assistant

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shift working, 8:30 2:30pm each day
  • Part-Time

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain medical history prior to breast biopsy procedure
  • Assist Physician and Technologist during the ultrasound and Stereotactic breast biopsies
  • Perform blood pressure monitoring
  • Post procedure care of biopsy site
  • Schedule patient for biopsy including getting prescription from referring doctor
  • Explain the biopsy process to the patient, including pre-biopsy recommendations and preparation
  • Screen the patient by reviewing their medications and history, advise no NSAIDS/VIT E etc.
  • Ensure the patient follows policies regarding stopping certain medications
  • Obtain appropriate documentation from doctor clearing the patient to stop taking medication and for following up on bloodwork if needed such as PT/INR for patients on Coumadin
  • Prepare folders for biopsy approvals especially important for outside cases
  • Ensure all paperwork and imaging is available to the radiologist so the radiologist can approve the case to be scheduled
  • Follow up on biopsy approvals and address any issues that the radiologist brings to their attention at the times of approvals Ex: report needing an addendum; missing images or reports
  • Handle the pathology; ensure the results are routed to the referring physician and possibly to the patient. Obtain surgical path if surgery recommended
