Description:

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The MDRD provides reprocessing services of medical instruments and devices to care providers within our hospital. All reprocessing is conducted by certified MDR Assistants following strict CSA standards in our state-of-the-art department.

The MDR Assistant will perform assigned duties in accordance with the departmental standards of practice, policies and procedures and may be required to perform duties including but not limited to:

  • Decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, wrapping, sterilizing, and distributing patient care equipment, reusable supplies, instrumentation and additional support services as needed in a manner that adheres to guidelines and standards set by organizations such as CSA (Canadian Standards Association), PIDAC (Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee), and Health Canada.
  • The MDR Assistant is also responsible for effectively communicating in a professional manner to our customer departments in order to ensure their reprocessing needs are met in a timely and efficient manner.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Current CSA Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT) Certificate or
  • Medical Device Reprocessing certificate from a recognized College or Association is required and
  • Must commit to completing the CSA CMDRT exam upon the expiry of your current certificate or commitment to successfully obtain a CSA CMDRT certification within five (5) years of initial certification date

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Preference will be given to those with a minimum of one (1) year of recent experience in the care and handling of surgical instruments and equipment; operation of various types of sterilizers preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization methods, chemical disinfection, and principles of aseptic technique preferred
  • Certificate in endoscopic scope reprocessing preferred
  • Ability to independently organize workload in a fast-paced environment, remain calm in emergency situations, and work with minimal supervision
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job
  • Strong capacity to manage workload independently in a fast-paced environment, maintaining composure during emergency situations.
