Description:
DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Manager, Research Support, the Medical Education Research Officer serves as the primary point of contact for DOM members with an area of focus in teaching/education scholarship/research to facilitate effective research grant applications and manuscript preparations and related research and scholarly initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters/equivalent University degree in a health or science-related discipline or a combination of related education and experience.
- 5 years of experience in academic research; experience at an academic hospital/University is strongly preferred.
- Experience in both quantitative and qualitative research
- Experience in synthesizing and reviewing peer-reviewed publications
- Knowledge of the Canadian landscape in medical education including funding agencies
- Experience writing and assisting with manuscripts and grant proposals.
- Project management experience.
- Experience maintaining a research budget.
- Working knowledge of academic research standards and regulations.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills required to coordinate multiple activities.
- Ability to work under pressure with attention to detail in a team environment.
- Ability to perform duties professionally and courteously and produce high-quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Take initiative to learn and work independently to meet the challenges of a complex environment.
- Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and diplomacy in dealing with a wide variety of contacts.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to establish and maintain a positive working relationship.
- Experience with research ethics guidelines, applications and REB requirements is considered an asset
- Familiarity with corporate (TOH, uOttawa, OHRI) and/or departmental policies is considered an asset
- Proficiency in speaking and comprehending French (Level B+) is considered an asset
Responsibilities:
- Aid researchers with the administration and drafting of writing proposals, grant applications, manuscripts, publications, conference submissions, etc.
- Collect, compile, update and provide basic quantitative and qualitative information
- Perform literature searches.
- Guide researchers through an increasingly complex regulatory environment.
- Collaborate with team members and relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment between proposed projects and funder priorities, promote initiatives, and capitalize on resources.
- Develop budgets for grant proposals.
- Assist researchers with CV maintenance.
- Collect and manage research data.
- Explore and identify potential grant opportunities.
- Organize meetings and develop documentation to support the Office of Research Support and researchers.
- Assist with the development and revision of guidelines, policy, and standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Participate in database processing and management as relevant to medical education.
- Participate in the onboarding process of members with an interest in medical education research.
- Collaborate with the Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CiMED).
