A member of the GFG Alliance group, Liberty Primary Steel operates the historic Whyalla Steelworks, approximately 400km from Adelaide. The integrated facility which includes ironmaking, steel making, and rolling-mill facilities is Australia’s only manufacturer of special grade billet and steel long products providing solutions for nation-building infrastructure including rail. It is also the future home of green steel with plans to construct an Electric Arc Furnace and Direct Reduction Iron facility fed by natural gas and hydrogen as part of the GFG’s journey to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Senior Emergency Services Officer (SESO), the Medical Emergency Services Officer (MESO) supports Liberty Primary Steel (LPS) by delivering essential Emergency Response services (Fire, Rescue, Medical Response, and Asset Protection) at the Whyalla Steelworks site.
The MESO assists the Emergency Manager Lead in delivering emergency services to set standards, conducting emergency response exercises, training Trainee Emergency Services Officers (TESO), and developing an Auxiliary Response Group (ARG).
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first responder support following Clinical Practice Guidelines.
- Conduct training, compliance activities, and support the development of emergency response and rescue plans.
- Maintain high operational readiness of emergency equipment, vehicles, and PPE, reporting issues to the Emergency Management Lead.
- Assist in training and preparing the emergency response team and developing an Auxiliary Response Group (ARG).
- Maintain thorough site knowledge, including operational areas, hazardous materials storage, and emergency equipment.
- Ensure fitness for work as per prescribed requirements
Essential to the role:
- Certificate III in Emergency Response and Rescue
- Minimum of Cert IV Health Care - HLT41115 or equivalent
- HLTPAT005 – Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing or similar qualification
- PUAEME008 - Provide pain management
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (Includes CPR)
- HLTAID014 - Provide Advanced First Aid
- HLTAID015 - Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therap
