This is a unique opportunity to drive change with the use of technology, forward thinking, and a risk-based approach to auditing, using data, trends and patterns to enable targeted reviews.
As the Authorising Engineer for Medical Gas & Pressure Systems, you’ll cover our Healthcare, Education and Care & Custody divisions within Mitie. You’ll be appointed by, and reporting to, the Communities’ Chief Authorising Engineer (CAE), with targeted development, leadership and autonomy in your role to drive and promote change.

Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out Audits & Inspections of technical compliance and of SSoW as directed by Communities CAE.
  • Conducting Investigations using root cause analysis (RCA) of incidents, accidents or failures involving management, planning, engineering systems and equipment to prevent a recurrence.
  • You will spend time becoming familiar with each site, and keeping abreast with changes to sites, systems and risks.
  • Attend relevant Safety Groups as required by HTM 00 and client requirements to ensure that Mitie are appropriately represented, minimising risk, driving collaboration, and creating opportunity.
  • Report to the CAE and Account Manager any deficiency in the number of trained and competent APs which may impair the provision of the necessary cover for sites, systems and the Discipline(s) for which the AE has been appointed.
  • Provide recommendations and corrective actions to be taken to address any deficiencies identified.
  • Support on the assessment and development of APs through training,
  • Based on portfolio wide trends, work with the CAE to develop technical bulletins, toolbox talks and training to ensure that risks are mitigated and the requirements are understood across the portfolio.
  • Through auditing and ensure that the SSoW procedures are being implemented across the portfolio.
  • To work with the CAE to review current procedures, identify opportunities for improvement and, where necessary, devise specific procedures, working with key stakeholders for ratification and approval.
  • Formalise operational restrictions on equipment or areas that may arise out of specific equipment defects or arising from maintenance and as may be notified by APs. Ensure all points of demarcation and operational interface with other stakeholders are clearly identified and recorded.
