Description:

NOVANT HEALTH IS HIRING A MEDICAL LAB ASSISTANT FOR OUR CLINICAL RESEARCH DEPARTMENT. WE ARE OPEN TO CANDIDATES WITH ANY LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE LISTED BELOW:

Medical Lab Asst I
Team member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, to include order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, aliquoting, etc. Team member validates and processes specimens delivered to the laboratory, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. In some departments the team member may be responsible for performing phlebotomy. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support. Team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Team member will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
Medical Lab Asst II

Medical Lab Asst III
Team member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens in the specialty sciences: Transfusion Medicine, Microbiology/Immunology, or Anatomic Pathology departments. Team member validates and processes specimens, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems. Team member will assist in the evaluation of new/modified techniques when required. They will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
Medical Lab Asst IV
Team member is responsible for all front-line duties as described below in addition to serving as team lead and monitoring staff for quality, productivity, and efficiency. Team member will advise and assist in the development of training content and oversight of orientation and training of team members, as needed. The team member is responsible for ensuring policies and procedures are followed. Team member is responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens. Team member validates orders and processes specimens, facilitating timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing. Team member must be able to make decisions and solve problems. Team member will assist in the evaluation of new/modified techniques when required. In some departments the team member may be responsible for performing phlebotomy.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
  • Experience: One year experience, preferred. Relevant specimen collection & processing experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Phlebotomy Certification – ASCP, NHA, ASPT, AMT or a national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior Leadership (Required in facilities where phlebotomy is a role requirement), required. MLA certification from ASCP, CMLA certification from AMT, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required):
  • For facilities where Phlebotomy is a requirement of the role, the certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire. Failure to do so will result in termination of employment.
  • Skills may include Phlebotomy at some facilities, and, if in Specialty Sciences, performing specific tasks in Anatomic Pathology, Microbiology and or Transfusion Medicine. In Anatomic Pathology, the team member may be responsible for assisting in autopsies and preparing sections of body tissue for examination by a pathologist to diagnose body dysfunction or malignancy. This includes preparation of human tissue specimens for diagnostic or teaching purposes. In Microbiology, the team member may be responsible for handling and processing human specimens for microbiologic analysis and in Transfusion Medicine, responsibilities may also include blood product inventory management.
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff and the public. Ability to follow written protocols. Ability to work independently. Ability to communicate clearly.
